Wine tastings entitled Hidden Charms of the Istrian
Wines are among the most popular events of the Istria
Gourmet Festival, the culinary event that will take place alongside
the 25th Vegeta Croatia Open. As a tribute to the wine culture, the
tastings will be organized with the aim of sharing knowledge about
the wine and, as such, are free-of-charge.
Anyone can enter; the only thing that is important is for
the reservations to be made on time.
In cooperation with Vinistra and the Croatian Sommelier Club,
one-hour tastings of the best Istrian wines according to predefined
categories will take place at the Naša Kužina (Our Cuisine)
venue. Winemakers will showcase their wines in person,
which is why it will be an excellent opportunity to learn firsthand
all about the production process, perhaps even uncover a few
secrets. The tastings will follow an adapted professional
evaluation method, in an informal atmosphere and with the discrete
help of different sommeliers and a moderator, all of which
guarantees an excellent combination of education and entertainment.
The visitors will taste the wines and then vote for their favorites
by assessing the wines' appearance, aroma and taste. At the end of
each tasting, points will be added up, thus providing the winner of
the day, while at the end of the week the wine with the most points
will be the overall winner, to be given the title of the ATP Wine.
Over the past two years the winners were presented with the award
by the Croatian head of state Ivo Josipović.
The 2012 ATP Wine was the 2008 Gran Teran by Moreno Coronica,
while in 2013 the title was taken by the 2012 Rose Veralda,
produced by the winemaker Luciano Visintin.
The wine tastings will be conducted in Croatian each day from
Saturday, July 19, until Sunday, July 27, at the Taste Istria Zone,
between 9 PM and 10 PM. Reservations can be made every day at the
entrance to the Zone until 8 PM or until there are no more seats
left.
