Umag, 25 July 2022 – This year's Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag will be one of the strongest yet. It will include two players who are currently among the world’s top ten – Spain's Carlos Alcaraz (5) and Italy's Jannik Sinner (10). Moreover, on the opening day of the tournament, 25 July, four out of the five top seeded players hold their best positions yet in the ATP rankings.

The first seed player, Alcaraz, became part of the elite club of the five top seeded players for the first time on Monday, when he played in the finals of the ATP World Tour 500 series tournament in Hamburg. Sinner has held the tenth place for a while, and he is one place away from achieving his best ranking (9) once again.

Denmark’s Holger Rune holds the 27th place, unchanged from last week when he achieved the best ranking in his career. Not far behind him (32) is Argentinian Sebastián Báez, also enjoying his best ranking yet. Slovakia’s Alex Molčan holds the 38th place, his highest ATP ranking thus far

However, the list of players who aren’t top seeds also includes some who have never placed higher, such as Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, whose brilliant play won him the Hamburg tournament on Sunday, allowing him to jump to the 31st place. As the top seeds are determined based on their ranking a week prior to the start of the tournament (last week he was 62nd in the ATP rankings), and not based on the current rankings, Musetti is the eighth-seed in Umag, and his first match is scheduled for Tuesday, against Slovenia’s Aljaž Bedene.

The first round matches in the main draw of the Plava Laguna Croatia Open Umag will take place on Monday and Tuesday, while the top-four seeded players (Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune and Sebastián Báez) will join the tournament in the second round, on Wednesday or Thursday.
