Summary of the tournament by Lawrence Frankopan
They say the first steps are the hardest, but my team and I will surely remember our first tournament for the rest of our lives! The 26th Konzum Croatia Open in Umag fills us with an amazing combination of feelings, a sense of pride that will not disappear anytime soon, bliss because of an excellent tournament and the excitement that next year we will all together have the opportunity to repeat it.
The highlight of the week, we witnessed in the final where Umag got a new king. Dominic Thiem is the name that in years to come will be a significant factor on the ATP Tour. The boy who plays brilliant tennis and has even better manner is the deserved winner of the tournament and of tomorrow resides in a glass case of my most beautiful memories. The eruption of emotions will not ease off for weeks and months, but the general conclusion is very easy to measure: these were ten days out of our most beautiful dreams.
If I would individually thank everyone for what they have done for this tournament, probably this whole publication would not be sufficient. From the drivers, who are praised by absolutely all the players, over the staff in the restaurants (the food is incredible!), to the cleaning crew, security service, the hostesses, the Istraturist team that works all year round for this tournament... It is a privilege to be part of your team and I hope that we will work together for many years. All of you have shown that nothing can disturb your working enthusiasm. One year you are troubled by a little rain, the other we have temperatures that do not drop below 30 degrees Celsius, but you all are still doing a great job. In addition, all of us have also time and energy to have fun and it is a magical combination that makes this tournament and all of you famous in the whole tennis world.
Of course, special thanks go to the people who follow us. We had a full stadium from the first day and this is a special blessing. Thank you again for everything and know that we have already started preparations for the 27th edition of the tournament. See you again in July 2016 at the same place!
