The relaxed tennis exibition of tennis legends in Umag 2014 brought back Goran Ivanišević, but also the undisputed King of Umag, the great Thomas Muster, three-time tournament Winner, and two unique tennis entertainers M.Bahrami & H.Leconte. For the first time in Umag, the audience felt the magic of tennis in a slightly different, more relaxed way.
"We had the opportunity to see what these people know and can, and the reaction of the full stadium is the best indication that such matches are fun for people," Goran said.
Since 2014, exibitions have become a permanent part of the Umag offer. Goran tested our young star Borna Ćorić on the opening of the tournament the following 2015 year, as well as the Croatian soccer-moderator duo Igor Bišćan - Ivan Vukušić. That same year, as a second exhibition match, Goran was the host for two former Umag Winners, the icon of Croatia Open Carlos Moya and former world player Magnus Norman, and in addition Bob Sinclaire and Gael Monfils joined them on court.
"While I was a player, I did not skip Umag. Every year it was a pleasure to come back here. That is why I am particularly pleased that today, when I am no longer a player, I have been given the opportunity to greet the audience and thank them for all those years of support and love, "Moya said.
It was a foreplay for the exibition in 2016, and, as the media have called it, the most exciting day in Umag history. Umag was visited by Goran's friend Andre Agassi for 24 hours. His visit started an unprecedented avalanche of interes throughout the tennis world, especially in Istria and Croatia. Agassi was like a rock star, just as Goran has announced him, he gave Umag a unique experience. The tennis atmosphere on a fun entertaining tennis exhibition, in front of the pre-sold stadium, was completed by the arrival of Juan Carlos Ferrero, the winner of the 2010 tournament.
"The people in Croatia and Umag have so warmly welcomed me and I will remember it all my life. Goran is my great friend and I did not doubt for second when his call came, "Agassi said.
